The “Combating Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking” campaign is a five-year, multi-phase initiative dedicated to disrupting human trafficking networks and restoring dignity to survivors across Cameroon’s North West and South West regions. Modern slavery including forced labor, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking continues to affect thousands of vulnerable individuals, especially internally displaced persons, women, and youth in conflict-affected communities.
This campaign addresses the root causes of exploitation by combining prevention, intervention, and sustainable recovery. Guided by a four-phase framework, the project begins with stakeholder mobilization and capacity building, followed by a massive public awareness movement to challenge cultural silence and normalize reporting. In its core phase, survivors receive trauma-informed rehabilitation, mental health support, and access to vocational skills training that empowers them to rebuild their lives. The final phase focuses on institutional collaboration, local anti-trafficking task forces, and long-term monitoring to ensure ongoing protection and systemic change.
With over 1 million people targeted as direct and indirect beneficiaries, this campaign prioritizes survivor empowerment, community involvement, and government-NGO collaboration. By bridging the gap between advocacy and action, the initiative not only supports those already affected by human trafficking, but also builds the resilience of at-risk communities to prevent future exploitation.
This project is not just a response it is a model for scalable, grassroots-driven impact against modern slavery in Sub-Saharan Africa. It positions Cameroon as a leader in community-led anti-trafficking reform and aligns with global human rights standards, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8.7 and 16.2).
